CAJUN PROVERB OF THE MONTH:
“Words that soak into your heart are whispered … not yelled. ”

From Dana D:

Hi everyone..Wanted to thank all those who came out for my Birthday Celebration, w/Andre Thierry and Zydeco Magic..Was one of the best days I’ve had, and dances as well..The Balloons by Lisa and Christina were a nice touch I thought, and also the cake was sweet(no pun intended)..Was also Veterans Day and we had a pretty good of Vets who showed up..and to wild applause..as well as it should as w/o ’em, the country wouldn’t be where it is..So for those who were asking what we do, we give ’em a free dance for any of the local bands that we have coming up in the next couple of weeks….you’re name is there, so just come..

Wanted to say thanks also for all the women who were nice enough to dance with me..there should were a lot of them, all nice and wonderful to dance with..thanks again to all..it was a nice treat, as was the little funky number the band played..Me James Brown wasn’t quite up to my funky standards, but thank you all again for the cheering on..I was surprised and quite touched..

Don’t forget the Zydeco Flames will be at the Hall this Friday, Nov. 18th..they always put on a good show, so come on down..Dance lesson at 8:30, music at 9pm..

Looks like we WILL be having a New Years Eve Dance w/Andre Thierry and Zydeco Magic..We’ll be decorating, having food, champagne toast at midnight, party favors, and nice people..I’m pretty much planning on the same format, w/the band starting at 9pm, and if there are people there who want a dance lesson we’ll do on at 8:30..and then go to 12:30 or so..Cost will be $30 for the whole night..we’ll see you there..and thanks to all the nice folks who gave their input..

What that means is that there won’t be any dances on either Friday the 23rd, or the 30th..But we’ll be there on the 31st..how about that?

Also, don’t’ forget that Andre will be playing again, on the day after Thanksgiving, and yes, we are going to have a Zydeco Dance Contest again..we did this in April w/Lisa Mitchell and Gilbert Love winning..there will be cash prizes for the top 3, and the only thing we are asking is that you cannot enter if you are a dance teacher..Cleo, Ricco, and myself will be judging like last time, so we hope to see you there. We had 12 couples last time and it was a lot of fun..and that is what this is supposed to be..Fun..And yes, they do things quite often in Louisiana and Texas, and in every other dance form I know. Again, we ain’t looking for cutthroat competition, just a fun night and have everyone enjoy the different styles of Zydeco that we have here..That’s going to be about 10:30, on the 25th of Nov. Come and cheer your friends on and enjoy the people..

I’ve also had some folks ask me about flatfooting and clogging..well, it turns out that on Tuesday the 22nd, I’ll be doing a workshop for those who want to learn..I’ll cover some of the steps that Thomas Maupin did at the Old-Time Convention and others as well..that will be at 8:30, Nov. 22nd, at the Beat, 8:30 and cost will be $10..taps are cool to bring..

And I’ll see my Wednesday night Class tonight..

How ’bout my Niners People? ‘Nuff said..

Thanks again for all the support and remember to keep on dancing..

San Diego News:

>From Carol J:
There is going to be a community event in La Jolla on Sunday Nov 20th and they need swing dancers to dance at the Cuvier Club across the street from St. James church. If anybody is interested or knows of any swing dance groups please contact me at zbassgirl@gmail.com. Cuvier Club is an events/caterer so probably be some free food I would imagine. Also, Joe Sand cajun/zydeco band and Dempsey Pappion are playing outside in front of St. James church on that day from 1-3.

From Dick Brainard Portland, Oregon

The Ft. Lauderdale Cajun-Zydeco Festival was great fun. It was held on the grounds of the Seminole Indian -Hard Rock Casino in Davie, FL (mostly surrounded by Ft. Lauderdale). The dance attendance was a bit sparse–probably due to this being the first year of the “new” festival. There was plenty to do besides dancing–shopping at all the stores in the mall, gambling in the casino, & good food at the festival and in the casino. There was a large covered plywood dance floor to the side of the stage. Bands included the Magnolia Sisters, Savoy Family Band, Kevin Naquin, C’est Bon, Rosie Ledet, Feufollet, Cedric Watson & Geno Delafose. Cedric and his rubboard player did an added set on a separate stage in the mall which blew me away–Creole roots music.

Bobby Rodriguez–the organizer–promises more zydeco next year, plus a dance floor right in front of the stage. I will be going.

*******************

New Year’s Weekend in Lafayette, LA will be Dec. 29-Jan. 2 this year. The 3-star Holiday Inn is giving us a discount rate of $60/night. Call 337-233-6815 and ask for the New Year’s Zydeco Group Rate to reserve. Again, any problem making your reservation, ask to speak with Ashley DeRouen. And, remember to take your Priority Club card along for half off benefits. I’m flying into N.O. on Thursday for zydeco at the Rock ‘n’ Bowl, then driving up to Lafayette for the weekend.

Geno Delafose will play the NYE dance at Vermilionville again this year. Tickets are $35. To reserve a ticket, go to

www.bayouvermilion.org/index.cfm/?load=event&event-65 , or call 337-233-4077, ext. 203, & ask for Chris.

Chubby Carrier & the Bayou Swamp Band will play New Year’s Eve at Slim’s Yi Yi Ki in Opelousas about 9 PM.

Likely that Keith Frank will play at either El Sido’s, or the Zydecdo Hall of Fame in Lawtell.

L’Angelus Cajun Family Band wants to play for us at their church hall in Carencro for New Year’s Day Brunch Dance.

Roy Carrier’s Offshore Lounge in Lawtell will reopen for the 15th. annual Carrier Family Festival on New Year’s Day. Music

begins at 3 PM until we have had enough. Bands lined up so far include Chubby Carrier & the Bayou Swamp Band, Dikki Du &

Zydeco Krewe, Dwight Carrier & the Black Cat Zydeco Ro Doggs, Corey “Lil Pop” Ledet, and Lil’ Pookie. Directions–go into

Lawtell on the one way street, turn right at the first gravel street (McClellen), go over the railroad tracks, turn left onto Perry &

go to the club.

*******************

Mardi Gras Day is Tuesday, Feb. 21. The Holiday Inn in Lafayette will have a $60/night zydeco group rate beginning the weekend before and running through the end of the week.

Give it a ‘Like’ (thumbs up) and add a comment if you would like.

While there you can see some of my other recently uploaded YouTube travel videos.

I’m starting to get the hang of it.

This would be a good link to give to people unfamiliar with Zydeco to give them an initial exposure and get them interested. [Quick Link of the above: http://bit.ly/obYYN5 ]
