CAJUN PROVERB OF THE MONTH:
” Never look down on anybody – unless you’re helping them up.”

From Dana D:

Damn, we sure had a good time last Friday night at the Eagles Hall..The Zydeco Flames played like they have for 20 years now, and we had a very big crowd, with lots of new people..For those who have asked, yes, we get a lot of new people all the time. And most of ’em all have a good time..Some come back and become Zydeco Freaks like we are, some don’t.. But the good thing is that we still get new people..Anyway, it’s all good and thanks again to those who came..was nice seeing many people who didn’t come on New Years..The Flames will be back on the 10th of Feb..celebrating at the very least, Lance and LLoyds Birthdays..There will be more I know..

Speaking of bands that are coming back, Dwight Carrier and his Zydeco Band will be at the Hall this Friday, Jan. 13th, my favorite day..Not many people crank it out like Dwight..he plays the old, hard-driving stuff that is real typical of the Carrier brand of Zydeco..There’s some blues in there as well..Waltzes and shuffles are also in the mix..Dwight played a few weeks back, and with really a couple of guys who didn’t know much, really cranked it out, carried the band, and put on a good show..we’ve had people ask when he’s playing, so here you go..Dance lesson at 8:30, music at 9pm..

Have to also say it’s going to be going on Sat., with the Niners and the Saints going at it down at the ‘Stick..Drew Brees and the Saints look real good, but I have faith in my Niners..The Empire is back, and New Orleans hasn’t faced a D like the Niners all year..Plus, as we know, Defense wins championships..So Go Niners..

Next week, Don’t forget that Rosie Ledet is in town..they’ll be joined by the great Chuck Bush on Bass, and in some ways it’s a trip that more people who come to Eagles know Chuck better than Rosie!! yeah, it’s true..it’s sure to be a good show, as Rosie ALWAYS puts one on, so we’ll see you there..

Lisa Lees Basic Class was fun last week, and there’s always room for more..the Basics are covered, plus, leads and follows, turns, different rhythms, slides, etc..there’s a lot to have fun with..8:30 at the Beat is the place 2560 9th St. so we’ll see you there..it’s fun all the way around..

We’ll see you Friday for Dwight..

Thanks for all the support and remember to keep on dancing..

“Up-Close-and-Personal” with Michael Doucet and BeauSoleil

January 21, 2pm, Poway Center for the Performing Arts

The Poway Center for the Performing Arts Foundation is proud to present the next installment in its “Up-Close-and-Personal” Series on January 21, 2012 at 2pm at the Poway Center for the Performing Arts. Michael Doucet of the Grammy Award-winning Cajun band BeauSoleil will host a discussion on the history and style of Cajun music. Like the gumbo made famous by his home state, Doucet’s presentation – which will include all members of BeauSoleil — will be heavily spiced with lively playing and tasty anecdotes. Doucet’s discussion will be followed by a Q&A with the audience. “Up Close and Personal” with Michael Doucet is FREE and OPEN TO THE PUBLIC.

Grammy Award-winners and 11-time Grammy nominees – plus multiple wins and nominations for OffBeat Magazine’s Best of the Beat Awards – BeauSoleil are the preeminent practitioners of Cajun music in the United States. They hold the distinction of being one of the most frequent guests on Garrison Keillor’s A Prairie Home Companion and count Bob Dylan and Alan Toussaint among their outspoken fans.

This Cajun band still knows how to put on a show after 30+ years. BeauSoleil’s success has led to some major gigs including the Super Bowl XXX Halftime Show, a Bravo television special, “Dancing to New Orleans” and regular appearances at New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival where they received one of their Grammy’s for Best Zydeco Or Cajun Music Album: Live at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival (2009).

“Up Close and Personal with Michael Doucet” is presented as part of the Poway Center for the Performing Arts (POW) Foundation’s Arts in Education Initiative, a series of programs designed to give students and the public interaction with working artists. The Initiative includes in-school workshops, assemblies, master classes and one-on-one work with artists, musicians and actors.

BeauSoleil performs in concert at the Poway Center at 8pm on January 21st.

Tickets available at www.powayarts.org

For more on the Arts in Education Initiative, visit http://www.powayarts.org/artsInEducation.html

“Up Close and Personal with Michael Doucet” is brought to you by AT&T.

I just completed and posted to YouTube a special video that I have been working on for the last three days (I had to learn how to operate the various programs to produce it. [Windows Live Movie Maker & Audacity]

15 Second Zydeco Sampler #01

You can see it at:

Give it a ‘Like’ (thumbs up) and add a comment if you would like.

While there you can see some of my other recently uploaded YouTube travel videos.

I’m starting to get the hang of it.

This would be a good link to give to people unfamiliar with Zydeco to give them an initial exposure and get them interested. [Quick Link of the above: http://bit.ly/obYYN5 ]

Let me know how you like it.

Hi Brad-

Just wanted to let you and your subscribers know about my internet
“radio” station.   I’m playing a pretty wide variety of “roots” music,
including Zydeco, Cajun, Blues, Country, Hawaiian, Celtic, Reggae, &
Tex-Mex.  I will attempt to change the playlists weekly so that
listeners don’t get bored.  If any of your subscribers have any
constructive input or suggestions for other artists, they can contact me
through my station page.  Also, if any of the artists on your list would
like to submit music to be played, they can contact me through the
station page.  I will take all submissions under consideration, and if I
think it fits, I will play it.   It is free to listen, or listeners can
sign up for an ad-free VIP membership.
